Power BI and Microsoft Fabric Reporting Analyst

Experience: 2–4+ years

Engagement Type : Contract (Offshore)
Location: Remote (Offshore)

ROLE SUMMARY

The Power BI and Microsoft Fabric Reporting Analyst is an offshore, contracted role responsible for developing, automating, and maintaining enterprise reporting solutions that deliver accurate, timely, and actionable insights to both internal leaders and external clients. Working natively in the Microsoft Fabric environment, this role plays a critical part in modernizing NStarX Client reporting infrastructure, strengthening data quality, and ensuring that stakeholders and clients have consistent, automated access to the information necessary to drive performance, transparency, and operational excellence.

The analyst works as an extension of the NStarX Client Data Science team, collaborating with onshore Data Strategy, Data Architecture, Engineering, and IT leads, and with business stakeholders as coordinated by the Data Science Director, to translate reporting requirements into automated, scalable assets built on Fabric’s unified analytics platform. Work is performed remotely within provisioned, access-controlled environments.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Enterprise Reporting Development in Fabric
    • Design, build, and optimize interactive dashboards in Power BI to support operational, financial, and strategic decision-making.
    • Develop and publish reports and semantic models within Microsoft Fabric workspaces, leveraging OneLake, Lakehouses, and Warehouses as governed sources of truth.
    • Build and maintain automated client reporting deliverables, including standardized client reports, scheduled distributions, and high-volume report packages, using Power BI and Fabric-native capabilities.
  2. Requirements Gathering & Solution Design
    • Work with onshore team leads and business stakeholders to clarify internal and client-facing reporting requirements, and confirm understanding in writing before development begins.
    • Translate business and client needs into structured, reliable, automated reporting solutions, and recommend the right Fabric components (e.g., Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, notebooks, semantic models) for each use case.
  3. Data Modeling & Dataset Preparation
    • Create and optimize semantic models, DAX calculations, SQL views, and reusable datasets that support powerful data visualization and automated reporting, including models using Direct Lake or Import mode as appropriate.
    • Prepare and transform data using Fabric Dataflows Gen2, Data Factory pipelines, and SQL or notebook-based transformations in collaboration with Data Engineering.
    • Partner closely with Data Engineering and the Data Architect to ensure accurate data lineage, validated datasets, and governance alignment across Fabric workspaces.
  4. Reporting Automation & Performance Optimization
    • Automate report refresh schedules, dataset pipelines, report delivery schedules, and role-based access using Fabric Data Factory pipelines, Power BI subscriptions, and Fabric workspace and item-level security.
    • Optimize performance of Power BI semantic models and reports to ensure scalability and reliability, with awareness of Fabric capacity usage and cost.
    • Manage content promotion across development, test, and production using Fabric deployment pipelines and Git integration.
  5. Quality Assurance & Data Validation
    • Validate data accuracy, metric definitions, and business rule application for all dashboards and automated client reports.
    • Ensure client-facing reporting packages are consistent, accurate, and built in line with NStarX Client data governance, HIPAA-aligned handling requirements, and data access restrictions.
  6. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support
    • Coordinate with onshore leads to ensure client reporting needs and expectations are consistently met.
    • Support internal stakeholders with troubleshooting, enhancement requests, and reporting documentation, and provide clear handoff documentation for all delivered work.
